Give Us Eyes to See, Ears to Hear, and a Heart to Love You Only

Have you ever felt like you were looking at something but couldn’t really see it? Like the truth was right in front of you, but your heart couldn’t receive it?
That’s how I felt when I first began truly walking with the Lord. I had known about Him—sang the songs, went to church, even prayed sometimes—but it wasn’t until He opened my eyes, ears, and heart that I began to live differently. To see Him rightly. To love Him wholly.
We don’t naturally see with spiritual eyes. We don’t automatically hear His voice through the noise of this world. And our hearts? They’re often divided—torn between the pull of culture, the weight of life, and the whisper of the Holy Spirit. That’s why this must become the cry of our hearts:
“Lord, give us eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to love You only.”
Eyes to See What’s True
Jesus often spoke this phrase: “He who has eyes, let him see.” It wasn’t about physical sight—it was spiritual.
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”
—Psalm 119:18 (ESV)
When God opens your spiritual eyes, you begin to recognize what’s really going on around you—what’s of Him and what’s not. You discern truth from deception. Conviction begins to set in. And what used to entertain or comfort you may now grieve your spirit. That’s when you know He’s transforming your vision.
Ears to Hear His Voice
Jesus said in John 10:27,
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
We live in a world full of noise voices from media, opinions of others, even our own doubts and fears. But the voice of our Shepherd is different. It doesn’t shout. It leads with gentleness, truth, and power.
But we must train our ears to listen. That means quieting the chaos and tuning our hearts to His Word. How often do we rush through life, never stopping to ask, “God, what are You saying right now?”
Friend, you can’t follow a voice you don’t recognize.
Ask Him to make His voice the loudest one in your life.
A Heart to Love Him Only
We were made to worship but if we’re not intentional, we’ll worship everything but God. Our hearts were designed to love Him first.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
—Deuteronomy 6:5 (ESV)
Loving God only doesn’t mean we don’t love people—it means He is our first love. It means laying down idols we didn’t even know we were carrying. It means surrender. It means loyalty. It means even when it’s hard, even when it costs us relationships, opportunities, or approval—we choose Him.
When You See, Hear, and Love Him—Everything Changes
I’ve walked through seasons where I felt blind, deaf, and numb. But God—faithful and kind—always meets us in those places. He gently uncovers our eyes, clears our ears, and softens our hearts.
It’s not a one-time prayer. It’s a daily surrender:
“Lord, I don’t want to be numb to Your presence. I don’t want to be distracted by lesser loves. Give me spiritual eyes to see You, ears to hear You, and a heart that is fully Yours.”
Pray This with Me:
Father,
I want to see You clearly, hear You consistently, and love You wholeheartedly. Remove the distractions, soften what’s hardened, and align me with Your will. Give me eyes to see Your hand at work, ears to hear Your direction, and a heart that burns for You alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Let’s Reflect:
Have you asked God lately to open your spiritual eyes and ears?
Are there distractions competing for your love and loyalty?
What is one thing you can lay down today to love Him more deeply?
If this resonates with you, I encourage you to sit in His presence this week. Ask boldly. Listen expectantly. Respond with obedience. He’s not hiding—He’s revealing.
Let’s be a people who see, who hear, and who love Him only.
